I am asking a similar question to what is already here, rest assured I have looked throught the entire thread, but I need to ask with my specifics to make sure I don't screw up.
I have a 94 F150, 4x4, 5.0, E40D, 110K miles. No power, no torque to pull a trailer and poor mileage, in fact Dads F250 with a 460 gets about the same mileage.
The transmission has less than 3000 miles since a complete overhaul so I want to keep it. My Questions are:
1. What range of years and size of motor can be a direct replacement that lets me keep the expensive tranny and yields more power?
2. I read in the 302/351 forum that a 351w has about 25 more ft/lbs across the band than a 302, Is that enough to notice?
3. Crate engine or donor truck? Will I need new computer, sensors, etc.
4. What am I not smart enough to consider or ask?
Thanks for the help, my last rebuild was a 68 Buick 350...No computers, EFI, ECC or other initials.
