The 235/75/15 is the alternate size that Ford recommended/used on the X, so you can go to it with no problem. That's what I have on my '99. The tires are a little wider and bigger, so you get better traction, a fuller look in the wheel well, and an overall better ride, IMO.
Most tires come new with 11/32's of tread. They are considered worn & MUST be replaced with anything below 2/32's.
Our 93 came with the 235/75/15 tires and the 3.73 gear option. If you are changing from the 225/70/15's make sure to stop by the dealer and get the correct speedometer gear so that your speedometer reads correct. Other than that, enjoy!
