CV boot question ?

Hello,
My 94 CV boot is broken (on the passenger site).
My Aero has 58180 miles on it. Should I change just the boot (from Dorman Quick Boot) or should I change the whole CV axle? I bought the van as used, so I have no manual. Generally how many miles before I need to replace them?
Thank you,
Fordboy

If its not making any noise when turning, Then replace the boot.

You will need a 30mm socket for the axle nut and a 10mm to take the inside lose.

Grease the boot good and install it. Then add more before you strap it down for good.

I would do it soon, or you will have to replace the whole thing.

One thing to consider is that the labor is actually mor eto replace just the boot than it is to replace the whole shaft. My time is worth more than the price difference between the boot and the shaft. Besides, it can be difficult to find just the boot. Whenever a boot goes out, I replace the whole shaft. You don't always notice immediately when the boot has gone out so it could have been that way for quite some time, in which case, you could end up doing the job over.

CV joints as a rough rule-of-thumb should last 100,000+ miles, depending of course on your driving habits and local road conditions. A Quick-Boot is an ideal alternative to having to remove the axle shaft. I used one several years ago on a Taurus and was pleasantly surprised how well it held up. I vote change out the boot and leave the CV halfshaft alone. You should post your Quick-Boot information on this site as others have been looking unsuccessfully for the same thing.

Hi Guys,
I just bought this A-star as a used one, the van has been sit for over 2 years. When greasing the van , we discover the right CV boot has been broken and grease is all over place. I think about to replace the boot but then my mechanic says that he had bad experience with rebooting parts: it won't hold for long. Furthermore I don't know how long this CV exposed to dirt, I decide just change it for good ( I get a remanufactured one for $150.00 + 1.5 hour labor). I also found the Quick Boot is available at Schuck' Auto for around $20.
Thank you for all of your helps,
