the American tarantula is not venomous to humans. The brown recluse is, but not drasticly, unless the site is contaminated with bacteria. Black widows are extremely venomous, and can vary in color from shiny jet black, to paler. some species in the southern states are more red than black, and just as nasty.

A brown recluse bit is unlikely to give any sign for at least 4 days, then a numbness at the bite site, followed by inflamation, then if infected by bacteria, there will be a deep wound developing, which will slough off, leaving a hollow. The brown recluse is not regarded as a medical emergency, the widows are.

theo i have to disagreee with you. i had a painter friend almost lose his leg from a brown recluse bite.
here is vegas we have lots of both black widows and brown recluses. the thinking around here is get to the hospital soon because if either type of venom reaches your heart you can die fairly quickly.
another friend was bitten on the arm by a black widow and soon after noticed a red line traveling up his arm. the doctor told him that if it had reached his heart he probably would have had a stroke!
the black widow here are jet black and have red hourglasses on their bellies.
the brown recluses are brown(duh) and have a white "violin" on their bellies. they both get quite large here. ive seen a female black widow with a leg span of three inches. YUK!

As far as I'm concerned, all spiders must die; especially in my house - and they know it. We had a patient in the hospital who was bitten by a spider while putting his shoe on. Don't know what kind it was, but he was in bed for almost 6 months (had to keep his leg elevated). During that time, he lost his job, got divorced, gained over fifty pounds, and for a while, was in jeopardy of loosing his foot. The wound took forever and a day to heal, but his doctors finally got him back on line, but he was super depressed during that time.

I have killed 30 to 40 black widows over the last month. I got some Cynoff and spray where I see the web. I go back the next day and find a dead black widow on the ground.

I was bitten on the hand last summer cleaning out brush and tall grass that had overgrown some equipment. Never even felt the bite, until a few hours later, it was numb but still itched. A day and a half later my one hand looked like an over-stuffed glove, couldn't even bend my fingers. cost me about an hour in the waiting room, 20- minutes getting eyes and pulse checked by nurses, and literally 10 seconds with the doctor, =$225.
Gave me anti-biotics and benadryl. Completely healed in about a week.
PS I'm in WI.
