Shuts off SOMETIMES when operating temp. is reached and then can restart when cooled down. Taken to Ford dealer 3 times, but won't shut down there. Last time I left it there for 3 days for them to run around with...ran like a clock.
Just had it out myself today...yep you guessed it...shut down after 2 miles...let it cool down and i got it back to my driveway where it shut down again. Driving me nuts. Got over $900 in this problem, so hard for me to give up on it. This is what I've done to it so far: complete tuneup with new wires, new coil, 2 new ignition modules (replaced a new one in case it was bad because dealer said most probably it was my problem), complete new distributor (dealer said next probable bad part was stator), and now i just replaced ecm (ouch), and yes still have same problem!!! i guess one of the engine sensors would be next choice.
Please any suggestions?

Is there what looks like a blower motor under hood? Does it run? If not that could be the problem, they were installed to help with a vaporlock problem. Sound's like a fuel problem to me. I'd be checking the fuel pump.
fuel problem definitely ruled out by 2 different dealers. I also had pressure gage attached when it shut down....55lbs. there before and immediately after shutdown.
Got ect sensor. Only a $5 part??... looks like all this does is send to dash temp. gage.....Is there another one more sophisticated on engine which could cause 'puter to shut down engine?
replaced ect sensor and oh oh.....now temperature gage reads up at the al of normal as before changing sensor never went above the o. Now under load goes above the l. And noticed fuel line which runs up along trans. is so hot I can't hold it (trans just as hot which may be normal). Now vaporlock is crossing my mind. Later today I plan on checking fuel return line for clog (thinking this may produce vapor lock). Also when I shut engine down at high temp. the radiator fan spins freely. Fan clutch bad? Any thoughts?
no vapor lock--that was transmission line was was hot not fuel line.
just replaced ect sensor and still shut down when op. temp. was reached....immediatly connected scanner and came back system check ok.
anyone have any other ideas?
