I have having trouble with my new 2007 since I got it, first, the pivot bolt for the 4x4 shifter linkage keeps backing out and I lose it, (4 times now the dealer has replaced it) then the truck would just shut down, just like you turned the key off, I would coast to the shoulder and after a few attempts, it would start again, and would be alright, been at the dealer 3 times for that, they say no codes they could never get it to fail for them, Then last Wed, it shut down, I could never get it started, so the dealer had a rollback come out and get it, (luckily it was on my farm when it failed) since then, they still say there is no codes, but they can't get it started either, they say they replaced the ecm on Thursday, still, it won't run, they called Ford, they sent a rep on Friday, the put a different computer on it, and rep suggested some other things to do, but as of quiting time Friday, still no one could get it started. They said they would get back to me on Monday on what they were going to do, Guys, this truck has a grand total of 2753 miles on it, and they have put probably 200 of those miles on it at the dealer, I have driven a loaner more than my own truck. Where do I need to go from here.. Guess I will wait to see what Ford has planned on Monday.. HELP
Sounds to me like you may have a problem (s) that would justify a truck buy back by the dealer under your state's "lemon law". Might call the county attourney and see what documentation you need to get a vehicle to qualify in your state.
I sure wouldn't put up with a truck that repeatedly and mysteriously dies for no reason. The bolt falling out of the shifter linkage should be an easy one to fix too the first time, not 4 times later.. I hate to talk to lawyers, but maybe it's time. At least get more info on the 'lemon law' details.
Thanks, I think maybe that is what they want to talk to me about on Monday, I can't complain about the dealer, they have bent over backward to please me, They didn't build it, Ford did, So I was thinking also, it was time for Ford to step up to the plate and say we messed this one up, even if they get it running, I am almost afriad to go out of town with it...
I will keep you informed of what happens Thanks
I know it is zero comfort for you because you do have a PROBLEM truck
Fortunately you are only the fourth V10 owner in the last 5 years with one and posting about it on FTE (I know the ratio is higher out there)
Point is ,you are probably going to end up at the end of the day not trusting a lot of your money to FoMoCo for a future truck. I certainly hope your dealer and the regional rep do right by you, but odds are you will end up in a protracted battle
Let us know how it turns out
Get out your owners manual and get real familiar with the Ford Customer Assistance pages... in there are the exact steps and paperwork needed if you end up in dispute settlement...
Also go to the the State Attorney General web site for your state and search Lemon law for where you are
Thanks Fredvon4
I have had Ford Trucks for many years, had a 99 V-10 before this one, I guess with everything else that I have seen out there, my choice would still be an F-250 with a V-10, I know it is just a fluke and I got it, I guess time will tell what they do, or can get in fixed, I think they are supposed to replace the PCM tommorrow, will see after that... I really think it is all computer/electrical related, because when it runs, it really runs well, the time I have had to drive it...
Sorry to hear about your troubles. I am a die hard Ford man, but there are bad trucks from all brands from time to time. Statistically it has to happen sometimes.
One thing that comes to mind is last year some guys in this forum were having problems that were hard to explain and diagnose. Turned out that one of the main wiring harness was trapped in between the cab and frame. Just a thought, but maybe a harness is damaged somewhere.
Sounds like either fuel/electrical related (fuel pump not running) or power to the PCM is getting lost.
Anyone with a test-light and some basic fuel injection knowledge should be able to figure out what's going wrong.
And having that bolt back out FOUR times? No one ever heard of loc-tite?
What would I do? (I seem to be asking that question a lot lately )
Find another dealer, tell them your woes, and see if they want a crack at it - if they do, tell them where it is and to send a tow-truck over and take it away from that dealer who can't keep a bolt tight. Sheesh...
Or, just talk to the service manager at your current dealer and try to get it through his/her head that this is UNACCEPTABLE.
First time I've ever heard of the transfer case lever coming loose....
Update, after my truck spent a week and two days at the dealership, they had it running, replaced the PCM, replaced the pivot bolt and linkage for the 4X4 shifter, they swear they had loc tite on it, and torqed it down with a cheater bar, as far as it not running, they said there was a 5amp fuse installed where a 20 amp fuse should have been, and it was blown, But how would that explain the shut down, and then it would start again? Anyway, I picked it back up around 8:30am this last Sat, took it home and back to town, everything OK, parked it outside my shop to rinse off all the pollen we have here now, and that is where it sat, dead again, would crank, no start. They came again Mon Morning (yesterday) and got it, said that the 20 amp fuse was blown.... And the Ford engineers has said now to replace the transmission case, there must be a crack in the case for the pivot bolt to keep coming out..
SO they still have it, will probably all this week. One good note, the dealership owner has told me he has emailed the dist rep and he is recommending a buy back on the truck, he hasn't heard from him as of yet...
I am not real crazy about having a brand new truck and they change out all the guts of the transmission into a new case.... I guess I will wait to see what happens next...
cfd29 you have jumped through hoops. Tell them to keep it, and get them to get you another truck. This is not the norm for a V10 truck. Maybe 6.0
They can replace part after part and maybe they will fix it, however you don't know what was damaged along the way. I'm surprised to hear they would not just throw in a remanufactured tranny instead of repairing your old one, labor costs add up fast.
A cheater bar on a steel bolt threaded into aluminum, probably stripped it out so loctite won't help to much.
In most states you are already well within the Lemon Law limits of same fix problem not solved...
If dealer is willing to bat for you on a buy back ...jump on it quick
But have very realistic expectations...their ability to find that exact same truck is not going to happen and you may have to eat 8 weeks of order and delivery time with NO truck..... however in the end you will get another new truck and eventually around June the world and you will be back in BESG Zen alignment and you will be able to move on to the next of life's crises
Don't wait for the email to come back to your Dealer. I waited on my Dealer, the one that sells more Super Duties than anyone in the Southeast and most of America, and has a 5 star rating, blah blah blah.
Well I waited for 4 months and they finally had it more screwed up than when I took it in. I copied all of the service records and wrote a two-page letter to Ford Corporate Customer Service. I figured well I tried when Bam, the owner of the Dealership calls me and tells me I get $5,000 off of His cost and He'll give me Retail price for my truck. Granted my truck had 34,000 miles on it when we started and about 40,000 when I gave it back to them.
I ordered the truck and it arrived in under 5 weeks. They can do ALMOST ANYTHING when Ford tells them to. Oh and I still got the $1,000 rebate check in my pocket thank you very much!
Well, got my truck back yesterday, after they had it for 3 more weeks. First off, I see that they put 300 miles on it, they have split the wiring by the anti lock brake motor and put three inline fuses in, they put a new transmission case on it,, just the case, now, it is very hard to put into gear, I pointed it out to them, several of the service people tried it and said it was normal, I have driven it some and it has a loud grinding noise, at times, like you are putting a standard in gear without clutching it. They came out to look at it, service manager and me drove it around, and wouldn't you know it, it was quiet as could be when he was in it. Took it back to the service bay and the transmission guy says it could be the parking pawl not pulling back all the way, and it may not do it again. Well I had to get a load of feed today, and it did it off and on to the feed store and back. I give up. I have told them, and they all seem to think it is normal, so, I am going to drive it, with it makeing noise like that, it is only a matter of time until something turns loose. Oh also, the tranny guy told me this time he put that pivot bolt back in with a cheater and broke a socket in the process, OK does Ford not have torque specs on these things,, lets see, aluminum case, breaking a socket, would that not break the case AGAIN...
I have a farm and have to do most of my repair work, I ain't stupid when it comes to working on things. there is a right way and wrong way..
To top everything off, they refused to give me any paperwork on the service to the vehicle, ARRGGGG
