James, glad you found the parts you needed. I'm one of those two guys that Janet referred to that also has 54 239 EBU. I was going to stear you to Kanter as well......
This sounds a little strange, but whenever I am after a part that I just can not find, I call the auto parts stores that are located out in the boonys - far away from the big cities. As I'm a small town boy that's pretty easy to do and everytime they seems to round up the parts that I need. I really think that it not becasue they have a secret stash of old ford parts, but because they get more requests for these old parts and have good contacts - they also will spend days, weeks, month searching for you - they are typically a bunch of good ol guys and girls that still know the meaning, and value of customer service.
Best of luck on the 54 - don't be stranger if you have any questions as you go - I've had mine for nearly thirty years and could just about rebuild one in my sleep.
ps - in your adventures, if you ever come across an additional EBU head, let me know. I need one for a spare 239 that I have.
You got a great deal James!! I want to tell you something and it's not just to make you feel better because you have a 239,... but im nearly 50 and when i grew up on a farm, i remember those 239 Yblocks in those 54 pickups because two families by us had one, and i always thought the 239 Y block was the best Yblock out of all of them, because i can remember back, and even though the 292 and 312 Yblock can be fixed, i don't remember oil slinging in those engines until they started coming out with the 292 on up Yblock, Seems to me those people didn't have all that trouble with the 239. If it was me, i would buy that darned deluxe 1200.00 rebuild kit for that 54, and i think it's a good choice for a pickup for that year too, hopefully Abe will come in here and you can see the gallery pictures of his all restored 54 pickup, it looks real good James, and Bessie that has one says hers cruises good at 70 or so, i think you have something there and you sure got it for a good price too....Janet
58 myself and live in rural upstate NY grew up around the old pu that why the love affair with them.

I'am doing a frame off but not for a show truck this is going to be a driver my wife and I enjoy going to shows or just going for long rides through the country so this is not going to be a trailer queen its going to be enjoyed.
Sorry I haven't been here lately, but the other love of my life besides mt truck (and my wife and son of course) is soccer and I am in the beginning of our HS soccer season.... Yes the speed shop that rebuilt my 239 is still around but I rebuilt my engine in 1979. I now live in north central PA and in 1979 I lived in southern PA. Sounds like you got the stuff you need, good luck and let me know if you have more questions. Check my gallery to see my dirty engine. My plans are to redo my bench seat (it looks good but is falling apart underneath) and to paint the engine correctly.
Hey James...I've got a 54 w\239 that I bought from the son or the original owner! I dont know if you are going back exactly stock with the crossover
exhaust or not, but I added some really good headers from "Sanderson" and ran dual exhaust thru two 40 series dual chamber "Flowmaster" mufflers.
The only alteration needed is trimming the bottom edge of the inner fender for clearance.
I got alot more throttle responce and the truck sounds great!
I'm planning a rebuild of my motor the near future so let us know how yours goes.
good luck, Ed

Do you know where these headers may be found and at what price range. My pickup has duals, but it's a muffler shop scheme job i thought up, then later found out others thought of it before i did, where i had the left front pipe bender make me one to attach and curl underneath at the left front, then hammer in the right side and weld it closed, not bad!! But lately with all the links i've seen about headers and especially this ram horn design looking good i have seen, i am considering doing it right on mine......Janet
Janet, For the headers just try www.sandersonheaders.com
also there is another site, www.reds-headers.com
I was told the quality of Sandersons was good so I went with them...was not dissapointed. There was a little trimming to do on the pass. side inner fenderwell down by the frame, but all went in good. Also fit well on drivers side even when I still had the column-shift assy. in there.
The only thing I have going on now is very little clearance beteen the header and the toyota power steering gear I put in, but I should be able to sneak things in there (they'll just be a little close). A little bit of header wrap and\or fire sleeve on the hoses should do it.

Yes, fire sleeves are a good way to think i agree when you need one, i still have a light scar on my right inner leg from wearing blue jean shorts and riding my 1980 superglide harley 1200 cc shovelhead around the block about 10 years ago, because some idiot didn't put the front fire sleeve on the shotgun pipes and this rider didn't notice. Thank you for the links, i copied and pasted them on notepad with my other links, this seems to work better sometimes than my shell favorites folder because i can catergorize things....Janet
