I need the spring and spring retainer that should be inside the oil filter assembly for my 1954 239 Y-block. Anyone know where I can get one, or what the Ford part numbers are for these parts?

 

Best I can tell from my parts book, the center bolt and valve assembly is sold as a unit and is part number B2A-6741-A. That part number looks like it covers your engine and every engine ford put in these trucks between 1952 and 1956. Your best bet may be a salvage yard.

 

I am not sure if it comes with P/N 6741 or not, but I'll look into it. The problem is that parts manual doesn't show an interconnecting line that ties part #6741 to the spring and retainer, like line #6731 shows the filter and gaskets. But then again it doesn't show any identification for these parts at all, so you may be right. My other idea will be to get measurements (free height, number of turns, wire diameter, OD and ID, etc) and just buy a spring until I find the real thing. So if anyone can take measurements, I would be greatful!
