supercharger anyone?

nok i found a supercharger made for the 4.0 ranger/exploder. my question is this, how big of a difference is there between a 4.0 and a 3.0. if theyre even somewhat compatable then how different are the rangers and aeros engines? i looked everywhere and i couldnt find a 3.0 supercharger, despite what others have said about the rangers. anyone know of a good site that could clear this up? i saw this...http://www.performanceprobe.com/foru...?threadid=1868 (copy and paste it in your browser if it doesnt show as a link) now to me that looks a lot like a 3.0 with a turbo on it!!!now im looking for any kind of forced induction except for those electric fan things that sell in the back of superstreet for 70 bux, haha. let me know some advice, thanks

Totally diffrent engins. There are 2 4.0s. First the old Colone 4.0 that started out as a 2.8 then 2.9 then 4.0. It is an over head valve engine desiged in Colone Germany. The second is the singe over head cam 4.0. The 3.0 Vulcan engine is U.S. designed built in Lima Ohio in the old Clevand engine plant nothing interchanges as they are all diffrent "Families" of engines. The supercharger you saw must be a vortex or similar one if it looked like a turbo. No one has a kit for any 3.0 Ford so you would be on your own to make it work meaning lots of fabrication. The other type would be of the Roots variety that sits on top of the engine. Boss 3.0 put one on his 3.0 Ranger but I do not think it will fit in our tight engine compartment. Either way since the last Arostar rolled off the line in 97 you would want to rebuild your engine with super charging in mind.

have you ever torn into your dash and seen how much room is up in ther behind the stereo? ACRES of property up in there. im sur eif you had enough time, and a torch and a welder, you could gain some serious top side engine bay clearance if needed.

and yeah. make sure you start with a fresh engine. ive heard that you can blow the guts out of the bottom when you try and force too much into the top of an older motor.

Whipple makes a supercharger that is bolt on for the 3.0. It may take some computer reprogramming to work with the aerostar's ecu.

Have you ever taken off the interior engine cover and drove your van? Load as H. If you were to try to go into the dash with a super charger noise would be an area of concern. Were I think the problem would be is at the fire wall because both of these super chargers have the air intake at the back of the engine and they curve twards the passenger side. now you would have to cut and push the passenger saide fire wall back so you would have room for the elbow and then run tubing to the front to get air. Its possible but now you passenger has no foot room (Astro) and is it worth that effert.

oh wee!

I have always thought about making a mid engine setup for a minivan. It would have a very short, if at all, driveshaft and the motormounts would have to pivot for rear axle travel. I would probably use parts from an explorer like the engine and rear axle and whatnot. But I guess it would leave no room in the van. Oh well. All I wanted was to pull a wheelie in a van. Cool?

There is a guy in my town that has an old Chevy van that he stuck a 350 and automatic in the back. The U-joint from the yoke on the transmission bolts right up to the yoke on the rear diff. He has no rear supsension. Just big slicks so it has some give.
Apparently it performs well and will pull the front wheels, even though the engine is quite mild

well what do yall think of a turbo setup? ive heard that you can turn 1 of the exhaust manifolds upsidown and itll bolt up but the ports dont line up well. i think some porting could solve that if its not too serious. i was thinking if you turn it upsidown then the turbo is in the front top of the engine...i could chop out where the air box goes since the new intake will be there now anyways. then rout my i/c piping around and up to the intake. any suggestion would help a ton. i know its crazy but imagine in you pulled up to a civic or somthing and he revs the rice, then you rev and all he hears is a bov and a jet gettin ready for takeoff! i know about the bottom end fallin out. but what car wouldnt, im only planning on running about 3-5lbs of boost untill a rebuild the engine. by the way, does anyone know of a stroker kit or a longer v6 crank that will fit? 4.0 maybe? thanks

There are a few Mid Engine Vans out there. One has a 427 Hemi in it. The front end was closed up to be used as a trunk.

The Motor mounts are connected to 30% bearings so it can move up and down. it does have a drive shaft that is about 2 feet long.

Do you know if these mid engine vans are custom jobs or is there a kit or components or what? Also, any pics? He he he. Thanks. I am glad there are some people out there just as crazy if not more so than me!

The ones I seen cut the old Motor Mounts and moved them back to a prefabed support. It would have to be custom, cause I know of no one who makes kits.

The Trans mounts and support were moved back as well. The exhaust is all custom to fit with Muffler and Cat moved with it.

I should correct the bearings. They move 30 degree's in any direction. I doubt the motor moves that much anyways. You need custom hoses to reach radiator. A Electric fan and a wire extension kit for the Motor's electric system.

If I did it, I would also add Heavy duty springs and coil over shocks, To the rear.
