Nobody????
I must have stumped everyone with my transmission problem as I got no responses.... Nobody has had or heard of a transmission that will work perfectly in Drive but will do nothing in OD? I have a 92 with the 3.0 and Auto trans. I tried adjusting the OD bands but did not help. I changed the fluid and filter when the problem first appeared. Anyone with any suggestions?

when i bought my 91 ext , it was running fine in all 3 gears , but not shifting into od... i changed fluid and filter, but no help either. i finally had mine rebuilt. the trans repair guy said these vans burn out the overdrive gear.....? not a very technical explanation, as far as what actually happens ,i don't know. but any repair of the problem was beyond me. if you have to remove the tranny to fix somthing, you might as well rebuild it all. i assume you have the A4LD tranny? i was told the tranny on the 4.0 litre is a bit more heavy duty,but my over drive failed at 130 thou miles or so. you could check the past posts in this forum under .transmission, or, over drive or ,A4LD. there must be a good transmission link somewhere to investigate your problem, but the fix might be the same. rebuild....... good luck! rick

Yea sounds like the clutch that engages the OD is shot. Thae tranny needs rebuilt, replaced or just live with 3 gears. An other option is to contact gear vender and see if their blot on Over drive unit will fit our Trannt. They cost about $2,000 for the unit and your drive shaft will need shortened. An other advantage will be lower tansmition temperatures but a new Transmition may be cheeper.
