I was wondering how much work is involved with changeing the hubs on my 79 f150...... any special tools needed?? what should i pay special attention to???
Also, what is the best aftermarket set of hubs to go with, that are heavy duty???
I believe that yours is the same as mine and the hub replacement is fairly straight forward. I would go buy a haynes manual. They should have easy to follow instructions to keep any guy or gal out of trouble who is daring enough to turn a wrench. Also, I have had good luck with premium warn hubs. I think the ones with brass actuator ***** are considered the premium hubs.
Good luck, Tim
It's really pretty easy. Just some springs and gears. You won't need any special tools unless to need go in as far as the bearings or remove the rotor.
There is an excellent article(with pictures) in the Sept., 1999(yes I am a packrat) issue of 4Wheel & Off-Road, that shows the hub/rotor/wheel bearing replacement. You can order back issues from them. The article was part of a "Back To Basics" series and was entitled "Hubba Bubba".
