Well guys the van is dead, at my dad's. Little bro borrowed it and killed it... It appears that the fuel pump is siezed...... You can hear the relay, but the pump doesn't run... Where is a good palce to get a replacement?
If it's the one in the tank, I got mine for my 92 E150 at Auto Zone for $162.00 Now that's just the pump, not the sending unit and all that stuff. You have to assemble it to your old sending unit. It's pretty easy to do once you get the gas tank out.
Oh trust me 87 XLT, weve done that, gone as far as hit it with my 3 cell maglite. It's dead. Napa wants $160 for their "best" pump and they stock it.... It's right around the corner from where the van is.. The worst part is that it's got a full tank of gas, and we're going to have to change it in the gravel parking area at my dads. I'm not going to try to move it from there with the morons we have on the roads here in morrow (A.K.A. moron) county ohio.
I've not seen the intank pump from a van, but the 155 lph unit I just installed in my Mustang was only $90. What makes the van pump so expensive? Do you have to buy the whole assembly or can you just put a pump in the mounting bracket?
anyone have a picture of the van in tank pump assembly?
The pump body is six inches tall, and about 3 inches wide. NOt only that but it's in a 36 gallon tank. It's a pretty straight forward swap.. It's a high pressure/high output (flow) pump. The 351w that is installed in the vans is about 240hp (at least the one in mine.)
The one at napa is about the same, there is something about them that makes them more expensive. I'm not sure why. Advance want's $135, as does AZ, Napa wants $160 for their "good" one. So it will be off to napa thurs morn to get the pump so dad and little bros can get it in while I'm at work. I'm hoping the new pump will cure the rough idle it's had for the last year, tried everything else to cure it. The pump has sounded like a jet taking off for 4 years, so I guess it was just it's time.
I'll take some pics later and put them in my gallery. This pump assemlby is not little. It's probably 6 to 8 inches long, 4 inches wide, and at least 3.5 inches deep. It makes just as much noise as the old one did before it gave out... So here's hopin this one lasts as least another 165k.
Parts must be cheaper in Ohio then here in Texas.
The cheapest pump here in Auto Zone was $162.
Napa was $182.
The one good thing about Napa is that they always seem to have the parts I can't find in the other stores.
I was surprised that they had it in stock. The napa here in town only stocks what the service dept of the local oil company uses. So I expect they have a few ford vans.
