Help needed. I have a 1991 F150 4X4 automatic that just does not want to go.At first I suspected the cat so I changed it and the o2's but the truck still does not want to move. Sitting at idle you rev it up and it sounds fine but take it out on the road and it accelerates flat. No check engine lights. Need some suggestions on where to go from here. Any help will be much appreciated.
Can you be more specific than..."it just won't move"...IE I tried different gears and while in gear it won't move the truck even though the engine is being revved up...
It's hard to understand you...if the truck doesn't move at all in gear..it's not a cat problem or 02 sensor...please be more specific
First off I would really recomend the use of some verbs. I still dont know if you mean it comes to a stop when you mash the gas, or it just does not get up and go like it should, or it dies, There are lots of great people here to help, but they really need more info to help them help you.
Replace your fuel filter, what it sounds like is your engine is starving for fuel.
Replacement pretty simple, you will need a specific tool for removing the fuel lines from the filter though. These can be had at your auto parts store too.
Its a circular clip that is inserted into the fuel line nipple to release the internal retaining ring.
Assembly is simple, just push the ends onto the filter and make sure they seated fully, you will feel it snap into place.
The truck just does not get up and go like it should. I tried the fuel filter, catalytic converter and O2 sensors but I have not checked the fuel pressure. How would I check this and what should it be? When I am parked and rev the engine up it sounds fine. When I take off and floor the accelerator it just crawls along and I get no increase in rpms. Thanks to all for the input.
