ok, so my friend, for some reason unkown to me, unscrewed the plastic tab like thing that pops up and down when u lock/unlock your car, theen he pushed it back into the hole, and it fell in! so now the door is permenantly locked. i need to take off the door panel, i think, to retrieve the door tab thing, screw it back on properly, and then i will be able to unlock/lock the door again, and so i read the posted comments on removing the door panels, and i was wondering if it is possible to take of the door panel w/ the door locked closed, and just like more detailed directions on how to take off the ddoor panel, thanx a ton
the threaded rod that goes up and down must not be in line with the hole any more. I assume you've also tried the actual key, as well as the "clicker."
I really don't think you can get the door panel off without opening the door.
I'd try to get the threaded rod lined up with the holes somehow and use the door key to pop the rod up. Perhaps rolling down the window will also provide some access to the locking mechanism.
well, the thing is, there is a key hole only on the front door, so the only way to unlock it is by using the "clicker" or by pushing a button on the door upfront. And the threaded tab thing, forgot what u called it,is in the same compartment as the screw, but they arent attached, ive tried a couple times w/ a screw driver to try to get the screw to point right out the hole, and then try to unock it, but the screw driver prevents the screw from coming up enough for me to grab it or anything.
Can you get the window down? If you can try to carefully pry the door panel from the top of the inner belt moulding and pushing it back to a point you can get ahold of the rod and unlock the door. Then while open you can remove the panel and reinstall the components. You probably can remove the panel with the door closed but it may be damaged in the process. You are just seeing another example why it isnt always fun to be a technician, having to fix things and not damaging the trim in the process.
Maybe a locksmith can help you open the door if you can't get with one of the above tips. If you have a auto club (eg - AAA) membership it may not cost anything.
