am i right?

i have a 64 T-bird w/390 4 barrel, it is running very rough, the lower radiator hose sucks together when i throttle up, does that mean the head gaskets are shot? and its time for a upper end rebuild? the car will not idle very good, oil is clean, but the coolant is very rusty even after flush...

thoughts and opinions are welcomed.

I'd check your radiator, sounds like it restricted or clogged up a bit.

Don't listen to anyone who says you need a spring in the lower hose, if everything is working ok then the spring does nothing. It's purpose was for ease of manufacturing only.

i looks like it closing its selfup when you raise the rpm's......and it new...now the radiator could be a problem ..not sure. but the vaccum system does not seem right ...it does not want to idle maybe its still in the carburator ..man this driving me nuts.... .

Yeah, not idleing right sounds like a vacuum problem. Try spraying carb. cleaner on all your vacuum hoses, fittings and around the carb. base and spacer. When the idle settles down then you've found your leak(s).
