K&N filter???

Okay, since I have just finished some transmission work on my 96 PSD I have to start the TYMAR fund all over again. Here is my question. I need to replace my air filter now. The O'Rielly's down the block has 2 in stock. a WIX and a K&N. I know that the concensus is that the K&N intake is bad...mmmmK. but what about the stock replacement? is that just as bad? Should I just buy the WIX? little help, please.

Being that my wife says that truck upgrades have to come out of my "allowance" the tymar might be a while.

Actually - I think it IS the drop in K&N for the stock airbox that you want to stay away from - not necesarily their aftermarket systems....

EITHER WAY - why not get a WIX and be safe and start your savings for the Tymar. That'd be my suggestion.

OJ -

Check out www.mcagraphix.com/filter/test.htm - it may help you decide whether you want to run a K&N drop-in on the street.

Get the Wix and save the extra money for the Tymar.

K&N Drop In

What's wrong with the drop in?? New to the mods on the PSD and that was going to be my next investment.

The ins and outs. Some people say that the oil from the k&n causes throttle body problems on gassers. For the diesel, it doesn't provide any more of an air flow than stock, and alot of people believe that it lets too much debris and road trash in. The aftermarket, non-drop in, is a different setup. Some folks say that its more restrictive and sets off the air filter minder.

the drop in will let in dust!!! been there done that. i dont like pulling the intake tube and being able to feel grit inside the tube behind the filter!!! i think most of the problems came after i cleaned it. i think cleaning it must affect the filter media some how. I was off road on the farm a lot. and the dust in west texas is different than anywhere else. if you were just in town you might not have such a problem. I pulled it and would not run it on anything.

im gonna try this. look and maybe it is just what you are looking for!!!

The person who designed the Tymar air intake drives an "old" body style Ford pickup, so yes it will fit in your truck. I have that intake on my 1997 as well. It's actually an easier fit because you don't have to move the battery tray.
