Optima Batteries

'Morning all...

Had to buy a new battery for my wife's car and the auto parts guy said they REALLY like the Optima battery for diesel's. He claims it makes the starter & alternator last longer in addition to lasting longer themselves.

Since I'm setting my truck up for long haul RV trailer towing duty, would it make sense to upgrade the batteries to take the additional power drain of the trailer as well?

Has anybody had experience with these batteries?

Thanks.

If anyone told me a specific model of battery would "make the starter & alternator last longer" I would walk right out of the shop and go somewhere else. Sounds like a load of muffler bearings if you ask me.

The Optima is a good battery but it isn't the only one by any stretch of the imagination.

they are one of the best batteries on the market, i run a yellow top in my jeep because of all the lights and stereo equip. the rest is a load of B/S, how the hell does it make starter/alt last longer???? Not sure if you would NEED them for your diesel being you already have more than enough with 2 batteries for lights and what-not

Yea - 'till you spend the money for 2 of them - you coulda' BOUGHT a new starter and alternator!!

If you're worried about the batteries - go get the biggest, heaviest battery that will fit in the battery trays, with a high CCA number and you should be all set to go!!

Geez....I just bought a shipping container full of muffler bearings on EBAY! Does that mean that there is no "big" market for them? The seller assured me muffler bearings are going to be hot this Christmas!

Low battery levels, or a battery that is on it's last legs that doesn't have the juice to crank over one of these 7.3's will reduce the life of the starter. As for the alternator, now that's just total bs. I was this close to getting the red tops for mine, when I came accross a deal at Pep Boys for two batteries that set me back the price of one optima, with a 5 year replacement plan. ( 126.00 and change if I remember) Makes a huge difference cranking over.
