Question Modern A/C Bracket

Does anyone know who makes a bracket to mount a new style (Sanden) compressor to a 400? I want to upgrade to one of these when I do my engine rebuild. Thanks.

AC Bracket

Hi all:
I am in the same situation as above. I have a '79 F100 with a 300 cid 6 cyl, never had air. I need the bracket for the square compressor for a 6 cyl, so that I can install a Vintage Air system. They have a kit that bolts in with adapters for the original factory air compressor. Will line up, etc.

Anyone know where I can get a part number or the part? I got a bracket from a newer 260 van but no good. Won't fit my block.

Here is a link to someone that did the conversion from a York to a Sanden compressor. Looks like he used an adapter from "Pantera East" that mates the new to the old York Bracket.

$75 bucks looks like a deal to me too and I'm going to investigate this further too.

Linky link here

Guys - if one of the site sponsors doesn't have the parts you're looking for, you should check out www.oldairproducts.com. They might have what you need. I've been searching for an A/C bracket & pulleys for my '74 F250 - found these folks through Hemmings & they've got a complete bracket and drive kit for the FE block that fits a new style Sanden compressor for $130. Their compressors are around $220, which isn't bad, and they can rework your hoses for you if necessary. Very nice folks, at least over the phone!

Hope this helps!

I would use www.air-tique.com long before I used Old Air.

Scot -

Can you fill us in? I haven't anything from either, just been looking and trying to price parts for my restoration. They were helpful over the phone & seem to have the parts I'm looking for, that's about all I can say.

Bought an Old Air "Hurricane heat and cool" and installed it in my '55 F100. On a real good day, I would drive along and and debate if I should just turn it off and roll down the window. If it was over 90* outside, forget it. Somehow, I expected more for most of $1K. The biggest problem is that the whole design is flawed. Of course the heater worked well. I could not turn it down enough to be able to leave it on while driving.

I finally jerked it out and installed the Air-Tique King Cool. I love it. It works.

www.bought4less.com has access to older mounts to use the Sanden type compressors.

I installed a 351 C in my 56 F-100 and wanted to install A/C in the truck using a Sandin compressor. I used the bracket that was originally used for the York compressor, by fabricating an adapter. The adapter lays flat on top of the cast bracket that bolts to the front of the left head. Take a flat piece of 1/4 inch steel cutting it to the size of the flat portion of the York bracket. Weld four ears on it for the two front and the two rear mounting bolts on the Sandan compressor. It is best to cut, grind, and drill these ears before welding them on the 1/4 inch plate. Before you weld the ears to the plate, be sure and check that your belts are going to line up. I guess if it was not perfect you could slot the four plate to A/C bracket holes so you could adjust it back and forward. Next I took the stock bracket that bolts to the front of the water pump and to the top of the York compressor, this is the piece with the adjusting pulley on it. I cut the top of it and fabbed an L bracket to bolt the top of the compressor to the idler or adjusting pulley bracket. I next tool a piece of round tubing and mashed both ends flat with a press, and bent the ends at about 45 degree angles, bolting one end to the top of the idler pulley bracket and the other end to the intake bolt. This steadies the upper idler bracket. I am enclosing a picture so you can see this.

Thanks for the pic, Michelle.

Does anyone know what vehicle a Sanden compressor came on? I'd like to find one to use for making brackets and don't want to bang around a new one... So it would be great to pull one at a salvage yard for this use. Anyone know what vehicle I could get if from? Ford, Dodge, GM?

Marty, I don't know that any brand name cars came with Sandin compressors. That is not to say that none ever used it, it is just that I have never seen a production car with one. I have only seen them on street rods, and after market applications. They are very popular with the street rod crowd. You can get them for high RPM applications, or low speed applications.
