Question Engine Heater Hose connection pipe.

Hi all,

I have '77 F250 w/ 351M. The heater hose inlet and oulet are both heavily corroded (engine side side not core). Are they pressed in or threaded? I am assuming that they are pressed as there isn't a hexagonal collar. What is the best way of getting them out without dropping chunks of debris into the water jacket? I have been unable to find any fittings at the local chain store that aren't threaded...any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Gents,

Was this a dumb question or did I post it in the wrong forum?

Thanks

My 79 heater core pipes at the firewall, just look to be the ends of the heater core tubing being stubbed out thru the firewall, no real fittings to it. It looks like they just put some sort of a bump flare at the end of the tubes, just so the hose clamps will have something to squeeze down on. Sorry to say , from where I sit your looking at a new core, or a tricky solder job to extend your rotten tubing ends. good luck all jmo

If he is reffering to the heater core end's they are non replaceable fittings. They are all 1 big part of the heater core itself.

If he is reffering to the heater hose connector's on the intake manifold and water pump some are pressed in and some are screwed in. If there is no "hexagonal nut" they would be pressed in and require a machine shop to R+R

he said the "engine side" and no hexagonal nut, so it looks like the machine shop it is for him.

My bad, you guys are right, he said engine side. Those hose fittings on the block/water pump, are pressed in. When my engine shop replaced mine, it became a 3/4 hose fitting pressed in. I had to install a 3/4 in to a 5/8 in hose reducer on it, so I could put my 5/8 in heater hose on it.

Heater Hose Fitting

I just started beating mine back & forth from one side to the other with a hammer til it loosened, then wormed it out with channel locks. Advance or Autozone has the fittings. Put a little Permatex on it & whack it back in.

Yes, they are pressed in.

The nice thing is...once you get the corroded one out the new one fits like a glove with some goo on it
This is more of an engine or Cooling/heating question than a Truck specific question.

Even the *general automotive discussion forum* could handle this one

This question gets asked every couple of months in the 351M/400 engine forum. There are lots of solutions, part numbers, etc posted there.
