Cold A/C mod using Excursion heater valve question...

So I have the vacuum line ready to hook up to my YG-366 Excursion heater valve. My question is which of the two heater hoses coming out of the firewall from the heater core do I splice this valve into? I tried to figure this out by looking through threads related to this topic and didn't see any info on it.

Does anyone know which side it went on in the Excursion with no rear heater control?

Thanks,
Drake

Shouldn't matter, if you shut one off it wont flow through the heater core. I haven't looked at mine for awhile, but there should be one coming off of the water pump to the firewall, this would be the way the water flows.

Do you mean it flows from the water pump to the heater core or the other way around?

Either hose is fine. Flow is stopped, whether going in or out of the heater core is not an issue.

Did you use the white or red vacuum line?

I believe it flows from the pump to the heater core, But I'm not 100% sure. Like David said, which ever one you do will stop the flow.

One way to check is get truck to operating temp, then feel the hoses and see which is warmer.

I used the white vacuum line. From what I've read, that seems to be the better option.

Remind me which one works in the Max setting only? That's the one I used. One of the best mods, great bang for the buck.

If the information I have read is correct, it would be the white vacuum line.

That's correct. I think I'm gonna hook in where the valve is that closes the door on the max setting. Right under the pass side dash.

I kept it simple,I went to a plumbing supply house and bought a brass gate valve and put it inline going to the heater core. Valve closed=no hot water to heater core(Summer)..Valve open=hot water to heater core(Winter)..

I will be doing this (and a video) soon.

We have a similar device installed on the ambulances at work. Two brass valves from the hardware store installed under the rig. I didnt know about it until one day when it was 90* out and the air would only blow heat. The mechanic showed me and it was like he was the AC king!

Yes but dose it also close the flow when the outside air only is on. I think you have to plug into the red one for that. Please let me know, I've had this valve for years now and have yet to install it. I'm thinking Robin said to install in the red line if you want all of them to be cool. I'd like to run the out side air in the cab if it was cool.

From what I've read the red line will shut it off when the selector is anywhere left of off, so vent or any of the AC settings. but the temp control will not work, It'll be max cold all the time.
