Motorcraft or not

I don't want to start a religious war here, but I got this friend who fiddles with Torino's. Anyway he helps me on my Ranger when I need a covered place to work on it. Whenever we go out to the parts store he always extols the virtues of Motocraft parts. Certainly they seem to last quite a while and they are original parts, but is his love of Motocraft misplaced or are those parts truly the best for my Ranger?

Ford likes them! They are of the best OEM quality. I don't mind paying a little more for good parts & will continue to use them.

Motorcraft is high quality stuff both in design and workmanship. And the parts always seems to fit the best in my Fords.

Motorcraft

Now the next question - since I've gotten positive on Motorcraft.

Do I have to ask for it by name at the parts store or is Motorcraft only available through the dealerships? I've never actually been handed a Motorcraft part at a local parts store - typically its a cheap knockoff (not that its necessarily a bad thing). Cause personally I'm inclined to agree that getting original manufacturer replacements is the best thing for the truck.

Be sure to check out your local Mazda dealer if buying parts for your Ranger. Mazda sells the same parts, and I've found them to be cheaper.

Ask for Motorcraft parts by name. Many parts stores carry them. I recently had to replace the fuel pressure regulator on my son's car twice since the first part they handed me at the parts store was a Borg Warner part. It lasted 10 minutes b4 the diaphragm ruptured and filled the engine with gas. So that bad fuel pressure regulator cost me an oil change and a tow ($75). It was also the same brand that was on the car that had been replaced by the PO. That part didn't last 6 months before it ruptured just not as bad as the replacement. The Motorcraft replacement was a couple of bucks more and it has been working for a couple of months now. There was a big difference just in the looks of the parts too. I didn't ask for the Motorcraft part and the parts guy didn't even off to sell me the better part the first time or i would have bought it. Now I know to always ask!

BTW, -Ford wanted $500 to replace that regulator because they said it takes 3 hours. I was able to replace the first regulator in 30 minutes with homeowner tools scattered in several tool boxes. The second regulator took an hour to replace because I had a cleanup job to do.

Always use Motorcraft electronic modules also. They work well and most of the aftermarket parts are junk. The aftermarket parts people can reverse engineer the Motorcraft parts but they just can't duplicate the parts specs and testing knowledge that goes into the Motorcraft units.

Motorcraft parts are the best ,but when you dont have the extra $$$ to get then most aftermarket parts will do just as good.I get most of my parts at Advance and have had VERY GOOD LUCK with them.Torque1st did you look at the name on the Motoecraft FPR when you got the last one.The last one I got at the Ford dearler was in a motorcraft box and had a MC part# but was made by Boch, same with a O2 sensor.I got same parts{for a diffrent BII}at the parts store in the Boch box and it did not cost as much and they have worked as well as the Motorcraft parts.Even looked the same.So here is something to try,if you can get the bad part off befor you buy a part see if you can find out who made it,maybe you can save yourself some money by buying the part under the manufactor name.I have done this and it has provied me with good parts for less money...JMO
