Split-fire, Rapid fire, Bosch +4 plugs

Today the lady at the advance auto parts store warned me that rapid fire/split fire plugs would damage my engine if it wasn't a racing engine. Never heard of this. Anyone have any info

Thank her for saving you some money. As Bob says - for the most part its all scams. Platnum plugs help a little, the split fire or quad fires are BS that look good on an animated commercial.

Well, count me in on the +4 plugs. I've run them for years and like them, and this is not on racing engines. More like family trucksters. Why wouldn't having four fresh points for arcing be better than one, although I know only one can arc at a time?

Got same presentation from dealer who took new BOSCH platinum plugs out of family car and replaced with regular plugs and charged me twice as much. Had some reason for platinum plugs deteriorating in older engines (pre-1996). I wrote an email to BOSCH tech service asking for explaination, but apparently they don't feel obligated to defend their product.

If you drop 2,3, or 4 matches in a bucket of gas is it going to explode any sooneror any better?

Think about it!!!!!!! if you had 4 ways to go and one was easyer would you go that way??? same thing in a spark plug, it will go the easyest way, if it has 4 ways to go, it will go the easyest way, making a better spark!!

I wouldn't take anything that I heard at a parts store very seriously. I don't want to be sexist, but I have never had a conversation with a women that knew much about cars.

I tried the bosch platinums (not the +4) in my van, you know what... 2 weeks later I went back to motorcraft, after the bosch plugs melted.

The object is not to create 2 or 3 or 4 arcs but to split the arc. This spreads the flash point out and is supposed to create a better and more complete burn thus giving you a performance boost. How well do they work? I can't say but I have used them and had no problems nor damage to any engine. It's all in preference as to what you want.

I used "splitfire plugs" in a Isuzu Trooper 2.8 for years. I did not see any power increase but The MPG did increase about 2 % and the replacement time on plugs decreased. I would replace the OEM replacements at 25-30K miles and the split fires at about 75k.

I have noticed the same with the Bosch platinums have produced the same outcome in my 300 I6.
