New Speakers Installed
Just got in my new speakers from crutchfield today. Infinitys for the front and polk audio for the rears.
Tremendous difference in the crispness of the music. Highs and lows have totally changed. I bought the panel removal tool but you don't need it at all.
Very simple to do and total time for the changeover was about 1:15 MINUTES FROM START TO FINISH.
Mach Audio now sounds like Mach Audio should.
Don't hesitate to tackle this simple DIY project yourself.

I know there was another thread about replacing factory speakers with after market units.
The other person used Polk Audio's db570 and reported great results.
I was thinking....
Instead of replacing the factory with 5x7s or 6x8s, why not use 6 1/2 round speakers? There are adapters that allow you to use a 6 1/2 round speaker with the factory oval hole.
In general, a round speaker will sound better than the oval, even though the oval has more surface area. Oval speakers also tend to be less accurate less consistent in reproducing sound.
Any thoughts?
JAMES.

the need to have different types of speakers really comes down to what will fit properly. the infinitys will not fit in the rear doors - they are like 3/32 of an inch to deep. the polk just fit without a problem.
I relied on advice from crutchfield, they seemed to know what they were talking about. I'm sure you could spend more money and always find better stuff, but I'm happy with the sound now.

i just added a new sony 8" sub to replace my sub that had blown , i have 2 new kenwood speakers waiting to go in the front doors, and i'll be moving th e 2 front stock speakers to the back to replace one that isn't working for now, they will be replaced as well pretty soon, think i'll be changing the head unit before that though

To "...tbird...": you and "...929RR" have both made it clear to me that the Polk db570's fit in the rear door encloses with NO mod's. Any front door mod's with the Infinity 6802 cf's? I have the "Premium" system, if that differs from the Mach system. I'm just looking for a "bolt-in/plug and play", so to speak.
"...tbird...", thanks for the info. This weekend I'll check out the local Circuit City and compare price/availability with Crutchfield. I understand C'field includes vehicle-specific wiring connectors/adapters for FREE with a car speaker order. CCity does not.

Here's what I found on Crutchfield.
INFINITY 6802cf 6"x8" = top-mount depth 2-5/8"
Polk Audio db570 5"x7"/6"x8" = top-mount depth 2-1/8"
Certain things make me nervous when purchasing off eBay... but I went ahead and ordered 2 pair of the Polk Audio DB570's. Total price shipped was like $88 bucks, crutchfield had good prices but they were like $70 something per pair so that would have been $140 something if I would have ordered from them.
Anyhow, they said they were brand new in the box so I guess I'll find out when they arrive.
Here's the link to the auction.

I'm sure one way or another I can get them to work, if not.. it's only $35 bucks I'm out. I've lost more in a hand of blackjack in vegas. That's what I tell myself everytime I lose money.
