Wrapping the headers will keep the engine compartment cooler. Not too sure this is really a big deal for a moderate street motor. If you haven't had problems before, your system should be able to handle the little change from the upgrades.
Use the stock clutch fan and use an electric as a pusher if needed set at 200°F. Make sure your shroud is in place. Use header wrap or the new ceramic coated headers that work even better. 4-core brass or an aluminum radiator. I like brass because it does not corrode the engine as bad. There are corrosion inhibitors in anti-freeze but they get depleted quickly. Use as little antifreeze as possible because water transports heat much better then ethylene glycol.
yes and mess with timing but that hurts performance too, i heard that wrapping headers will rott out the headers quick
You are correct, and messing with the mix etc. is bad for fuel economy also. I have seen many rotted out headers from wraps. Wrapping the ceramic coated headers voids the warranty, but why anyone would want to gets me...
Hooker Super comps, Hedman. depending on the vehicle/engine combo some fit better than others, you can get any header, new or used coated yourself.
Dropped my engine bay temp by 15 degrees after I had my super comps cpoated
Logan,
Are you running an automatic trans? If so, installing a transmission fluid cooler may help cuz you're preventing the hot trans fluid from reaching the radiator's bottom tank.
If you drive your truck in the winter time route the transmission fluid thru the fluid to air cooler first to radiate excess heat then run it thru the transmission cooler in the radiator in order to warm the transmission in the winter. You can get automatic thermostatic valves to divert flow but I think they are a needless complication and something else to go wrong.
