transmission?

I have a 77 f150 auto . The problem is that when I make a complete stop at a light something clunks, if I don't fully stop it wont do it. Then when i take off if I push the gas at all it will slam into gear. but if I just let go of the break and work up to speed it will be fine. Any ideas?

Try checking your u-joints first

Also check to make sure your motor mounts and transmission mounts are all tight. I once had a loose trans crossmember that clunked on every downshift when decelerating.
