I have a 1977 f-150 with a 351m and i replaced the intake manifold with an Edelbrock performer intake(non-EGR) and the matching carb. Im sure many others have done the same, but i ran into the problem of vacuum hose plumbing. Im not sure as to what goes where since its a 4bbl instead of the stock 2bbl and since the stock EGR manifold is now a non-EGR manifold. If anyone has pictures of their engines to go by that would be great.Or maybe someone could tell me or give a diagram or something?
As you face the carb, the larger center tube is for the pcv. The small tube on the right of the of the pcv tube is full manifold vacuum and the small one to the left of the center is a ported vacuum where you would normally put your distributor vacuum advance line.
thank you for replying im going to go hook them up soon. I have a question though...what should be done with the connections from the canister and what is the port coming up from the intake manifold in the front right corner near the pcv valve?
Also today i ran into a problem besides the vacuum connections. I purchased a new starter and bolted it up and when i tried to start it i just got clicking and occasional grinding noise from the starter solenoid. I got under the truck to see if the flywheel was turning and it wasnt. The teeth seemed to be fine on it so im kinda stumped as to why its not starting. Is it the starter solenoid connections since the starter isnt engaging? Could it have anything to do with the vacuum not being connected? Or should i be worried?
Can't help you with the cannister mine is gone. I assume the hole your talking about in the right front of the manifold ison the runner going into the head. I simply have a pipe threaded plug in mine. These things are dependent on whether or not you need emmisions standards to be met. I would assume because you have a non egr you don't need that stuff. Plug it and be happy.
The vacuum has nothing to do with it. As far as the noise, I'm not sur the way you describe it. It could be that the solonoid is not kicking out the gear in which case you would heas a whirring sort of noise. you could un bolt it and have someone hit the ket to see if it is indeed not coming out. Then you got a bum starter. First make sure you got it seated in properly and its able to shoot straight out into the flywheel.
I have two last questions about vacuum lines and then i think i have it all...(1.)The tree type thing in the back left corner of the intake manifold that used to be to the canister...i image that is plugged off also right? (2.)What about the crankcase ventilation tube
The crankcase vent tube goes into the air cleaner. Depending what air cleaner you are using, it may have a knock out stamped into the bottom of it to put a nipple onto. Otherwise it is pretty easy to fabricate one. If you still have all the plumbing run for the cannister it wont hurt anything to hook it to the tree, but if you don't you definately have to make sure the tree is all plugged. Do you have power brakes? If so that goes directly in the large fitting in the rear just under the carb base.
