That's right. It was a light brown wire. It should be on the left when viewing the coil with the wiring clip in front of the main high voltage terminal.

Sorry. Don't know. Looked in my Chilton manual and it said on 93-95 4.0 tach line is on the ICM (ignition control module), but that 96-97 don't use a separate ICM, instead the 96-97 uses a PCM (powertrain control module) for which there appear to be dozens of wires and I could not see a tach hookup in the diagram. Some say the Haynes manual is better. You may want to look there, but I would assume it must hook somewhere to the PCM. I wonder if your Ford dealer could tell you. (Who knows, there may be a tach line in the harness connecting the instrument panel. I would think they use the same harness whether the vehicle had a factory tach or not) Also, you can call a major tach manufacturer's technical department (the one that provides help after you bought a tach and are having trouble with it). Tell them you want to buy their tach, but are reluctant to spend the money until you are sure how to hook it up. I think you will get an answer.
