I;m assuming the small long rad in the lower grille of the 04 Escape is the air conditioner condenser? Correct me if i'm wrong. I've looked & looked but can;t find a tranny cooler on this car, is there one & if not has anyone installed one?
I know the benefits of a tranny cooler & if ever a tranny needed one its this car for sure, heat kills trannies, especially a little light duty trans like the one in the 04 Escape. suggestions or if i'm wrong about that lower rad let me know please
Roger
The small lower radiator is the auxiliary transmission cooler. The AT fluid is pumped through the engine radiator cooler and then through the auxiliary cooler before returning to the transmission.
Has anyone ever hooked up a tranny cooler on their Escape? I noticed that when you order the towing package it comes with an engine oil cooler, but not with a tranny cooler.
I have been looking at the Chevy Equinox and its towing package has nothing more than the hitch & the wiring.
I have also been looking at the Mitsubishi Endeavor and its trailer towing package has a tranny cooler.
Is anybody towing with their Escape? If the tranny is so weak just driving around town, I’m wondering if towing with it will make it break faster?

All automatic Escapes come with a trannie cooler, (the small radiator looking thing in the lower drivers side down at the bottom in front of the radiator. My understanding is that all of the 2005s also have the engine oil cooler too. If you have an engine oil cooler there will be 2 hoses at the base that your oil filter screws into..
All Escape/Tribute's come with a tranny cooler now, regardless if you got the tow package or not. The tranny is not weak, they had some issus in 01 with it, the issues were the wrong tranny fluid in it.
When you order the tow package you get an oil cooler, and apperantley for 05 this comes on all them now.
Sorry to dissagree with you but I would not rate the CD4E Mazda tranny as strong.. If you change your fluid every 25-30k and don't try to tow anything heavy, it will do ok.. if you want to haul things get at least an F-150 V8.. Just MHO..
