So I'm thinking when the tranny was replaced before I bought it they put an aftermarket cooler on it and bypassed the radiator.. it seems to run warmer than I think it should like 180ish not pulling anything and alot warmer when pulling. Btw it's a 96 f350.
My question is why would they do this? Contamination from when the old tranny blew maybe??? If that's the case can the rad be flushed and hooked up in conjunction with the aftermarket cooler or would I be looking at a new rad because of the risk of contamination?
Use some hose to direct the flush material into a cup or jar.flush both directions with solvent and compressed air.if you get no metal in either direction then it might be OK.many trans shops do the reroute just because and IMO don't know any better.also jasper used to require it for their warranty.
I would flush it and use in conjunction with the aftermarket cooler. The integrated transmission cooler is a very effective component by itself. Adding an "extra" cooling component is a great idea, especially if you're towing heavy.
Thanks guys.. I think I'll try to flush it cuz I'm just not happy with my temps and would like to make it last as long as I can. Now just to figure out the easiest way to flush it.
They make an aerosol type can that hooks onto the lines you can flush with. I used a couple of them to flush my radiator before I put my rebuilt trans in. The old one didn't quit, I just upgraded and wanted to clean the radiator out as good as I could.
