How cna i clean my engine of all the crap
i know i can get degreaser. but i don't like the idea of pressure washing it
is there another way?
by the way this is for the F150
I too don't approve of spraying water under the hood.
All those electrical connectors will get water in them and you know what that means.
I would take it a section at a time, working top to bottom with degreaser and followed with a wet rag.
I used a degreaser and then the power washer but on a lower setting about 2 feet away from the engine. Then I let it dry and sprayed a detailer spray on it. Made it all nice and shiny!
Living in the Canadian maritimes, my engine compartment as well is the rest of the truck is coated and dripping in undercoating to beat the "rusties". Add the oil leaking from my vavle covers and everything is pretty grimey! protects the truck and keeps the nuts and bolts from siezing up.
did it cause any problems with the electrical?
i'm guessing if i use water i have to let it dry out completely before i use it right?
will it screw up the alternator?
Yes, just let it completely dry up before you use it. And no, it will not screw up your alternator. You could also clean it all off and then start it up and let it run for 5 or 10 minutes. That way you know everything is working good and all.

I LOVE a positive attitude!
Isn't it amazing how very little oil can cover a very large area! I've pretty much restricted my cleaning activities to the upper parts of the engine ... you know, above those pesky valve cover gaskets!
I wish someone would come up with something that you could spray on, allow to dry and then blow the gunk off with an air gun ... right down to the original finish and leave it shiny
Oops, I think I was dreaming there for a minute
