Simple question, is the windshield gasket one piece for both sides ot two gaskets, one LH and on RH? Also I read an old post about windshield frames has anyone loacated a place to get new ones?
The '40-47 uses a 2 piece gasket for the windshield. If I remember correctly the gasket is marked LH and RH. Held in the middle by the windshield division bar. I haven't seen any repro windshield frames yet, but since they tend to rust quickly, maybe someday they will invest in making them.
Not that I heard of yet either.. on the frames. But I have seen a truck that replaced them with wood. That may be the way I have to go since most of us can't afford $150 for a set of questionalble ones like they have on ebay now.
I'm looking to replace the rubber around my windshield on my 47 1/4 ton truck...never done anything like this before. Trying to figure out everything I'll need to order before doing it....
First:
I guess from the other posts in this thread that the rubber comes in two pieces..so say for example I order the part from Mac's I need to order two seals?
Second:
what is the Glass setting tape used for or how is it used?
I got caught in a rain shower the other day and say that the windshield was leak'n pretty bad that's why I'm think'n bout change it out. Any help with this would be greatly apprieciated.
Thanks
Brad
Brad, just order 1 set. They come as a pair, left and right. Glass setting tape wasn't used on these trucks, but a little sealer in the rubber where the seals rest against the glass and the metal wouldn't hurt. You'll also need a piece of rope to pull the seal around the pinch weld of the truck. Best to invest in the shop manual, if you haven't yet, it explains step by step how to do it. Or search online for instructions, most will have pictures to accompany the directions. Just as a caution, be prepared to clean the metal around the pinchweld, they do rust here, remove any surface rust and seal the metal.
Thanks for the insight. I'll go review the manual on CD that I got and see what it says. The service manual (hard copy) is pretty vague just has some expanded parts views.
