From: in Pahrump,NV it's a nice town. you can drive year round with the windows down!
Hello again, I have another question.
The person who's selling me the 390 says it is a good running motor and trans. But I forgot to inquire as to the year,he told me that it will work in my truck. He also said it has power steering, Which got me to think'n about putting in. But how hard is it to convert? what year of steering gearbox can I use? Or would this be an immpossible task?
Hero, I would like to help you but I have to have more info to work with than that. 390s are darn good engines but don't come with power steering. That is an add on for the vehicle.
I agree with John, we need to know what year truck you have & What year engine is, & what it came out of. If it's a Bendix system it's no prize IMHO, but if it's a FoMoCo / Saginaw it's a gold mine, havinge brackets & pulleys is a good thing too. Some years FE brackets will mount the more desirable Ford/ Saginaw pumps no problem.
So if you've 65/ 66 F Series & right P/S combo on 390 FE you're looking at you're in Hog Heaven I'd say.
But if you've a 61 thru 64 you are looking at a world of converting to make any of it work, including an FE 390 engine. . . . . . .
