I've had problem with my truck missing a few times in the last 7 months. First time i brought it to the local ford dealer and they said all i needed was a good tune up. So i got it done. 3 weeks later..it's missing again bring it back to the ford place n they say it's a blown head gasket. So they fix that. About 6 weeks later it starts missing again. I bring it back to the dealership n they tell me it's coolant on the plug wire? ?? how does that happen?? and somethin else i can't remember. well it's been 6 months since then and about a week ago it started missing again. It's not bad at idle..around 1400 rpm it's usually the worse. Sometimes it doesn't miss at all. Local mechanic says it's just a bad plug. Any ideas?

How many miles on the truck? How many miles since last tune up? Did they fix the leaking heater hose when they did the coolant on the plug repair? If the clamp on the heater hose is leaking it will drip into the passenger side rear spark plug pocket and short out the plugwire.
Hi Fordfanforever, I don't know if you got this problem fix or not, My first question are you washing your engine? If so water is getting in the sparkplug ports. If not coolant leaking from heater hose and getting to port 3 & 4 also your mechanic needs to be carefull when doing a tuneup (relacing plug) when removing sparkplug boots or coilpacks. because dirt and small stone splash up from the tire and water and gets all over the coilpacks & boots. moreso if you are offroad a lot. For myself I use air hose to blow the dirt away around the head and intake, remove boots or coilpacks, blow out sparkplug ports with air before removing plugs and again after installing new plugs because the sparkplug socket rubs on inside of the ports and knocking more dirt in.
hope this help

Sure sounds like a coil pack. Pay close attention to #3, 3rd from front, passenger side. Any water splashed on the top of the fire wall tends to drip on this pack. Have someone run die diags and look @ the misfire rates, I believe it's diag value 85 or 86. I just went thru this, not bad enough to trip the check engine light but bad enough to feel the hesitation and poor acceleration between 1000-2000 rpm's.
Thanks for the input. My truck has 114,000 on it and it has been about 10,000 miles since the last tune up at the local ford dealership. I haven't washed my engine anytime lately.
