I recently bought a 2001 supercrew with the 4.6L. I think it seems sluggish, but the neighbor says it seems about right for the 4.6L. What can I do to give it a little more pep?
It was tunned up just prior to me buying it. I also have plans for putting true duels on it (it currently is wyed with no mufflers). I thought about the throttle body spacer but that seems like a it won't give me what I want according to other threads. I already put in a K&N filter.
Is a programmer the only real option? If so, what can I expect to gain with it? Is it worth the money?
Is it worth the effort or should I just run it for a few years then buy another one with the 5.4L?
Without going crazy like a supercharger or something I don't think you're going to see 5.4-like gains, at least not with filter kits and exhaust. I programmer will give you some good results, but I'd just live with it until I could get a 5.4 or better (One word man....Diesel!)
My next truck will be a diesel. I really didn't want the 4.6L but I got a good deal on the truck so I figured I would live with the 4.6L. Next time I won't settle.
The 4.6 is a bulletproof motor. Mine runs just fine. I have the 4.6 with the 4r70w. I put electric fans on it, and it has 373 gears from the factory, and i had the eec flashed. I put some 32c copper plugs in there.
The thing runs good for a truck. Its not a race car but it has plenty of power and gets 20mpg. No complaints here. If you want a fast truck then buy a lightning.
Don't get me wrong. The truck runs great, and is just fine for everyday driving. I just don't drive the truck for every day use, it is a weekend truck and a toy, I just want to have more power out of it as it is has less than I expected it to.
