I'm going to put epoxy flooring on my garage floor (currently concrete). I've heard the kit that Home Depot sells sucks. It sounds like this is one item that a more expensive material from a specialty shop is worth it. Anyone have first hand experiance with this?

This is what they use to cover the floors in Kraft plants. It's tough. It stands up to being wet, forktruck traffic, dropping stainless steel parts on it, etc.

 

That looks like real high dollar stuff!

The Stonhard stuff is pretty expensive, and has a couple of drawbacks in garage use. If you park a vehicle in the same spot for a long time, and you have used a light color Stonhard, the tires will leave yellow stains that are about impossible to remove. Also, if you trowel it out nice and smooth so it looks nice, it tends to be a bit slippery when wet. We used a lot of this at a factory I worked at, held up good for fork lift traffic and such. One of the contractors who put it down appropriated the left over material and did his garage floor. Really looked nice, till his wife came home one day during a rainstorm and pulled in to the garage a little fast. Kinda messed up the front of the car, didn't do the garage any favors either.

 

the best epoxy floor is the chip system with the granite look. first clean your floor with tsp on the greasy spots then etch the whole floor with murietic acid and water 1to4. rinse and spread baking soda all over the floor agitate with a broom then rinse again. let dry 2 days or so completely dry. apply bae coat color 2 part epoxy then spread chips in it you can walk on the wet epoxy with golf shoes. next day broom off excess chips and apply epoxy clear coat. next day final clear coat and you will have the most beautiful garage floor that isn't slippery. good luck material cost 2 car garage approx. $700 to $800

life deck makes a good chip and clear. the 2 part color first coat is a little tough to apply. I use ellis corp 400fd base coat throw the life chips in it and clear with the life clear. I buy all my products from altura paint in vista ca. the life base coat sets up quick and you have to mix it pour it out of the bucket and then spread it around or it will turn to jello in your bucket.

 

this is the best system and rust oleum makes a pretty good one i have had ver good luck so far it stands up well and it costs about 400.00 to do a 3 car garage
