hi im new my first post here but im building up my 76 f 100 and have a 352. i found a 351c in a 71 LTD 2v and am thinking about buying the 351 for my truck for performance. i will be putting hedders, cam, and later 4v heads if i get the 351c. im kinda leaning to the 351. so what does every one think?
Well if you get the 351C you are going to need to replace your bellhousing on your tranny if its a stick. If its an automatic you will have to replace the entire transmission as it will not work with the smallblock.
As for which would yield more performance, I'm not sure. Both engines can be built very well. I do think though that the 351 will simply out-rev the 352 because of its head design.
It's really a moot point. Given equal modifications and equal money invested, both engines will perform very well. The cleveland is fairly easy to build, but the FE has a very strong backing with the aftermarket heads and Performer RPM type intakes that are not as available right now for the cleveland. For my money I would go with the cleveland, unless I already had the FE and it was fixable. The FE can be built bulletproof and would keep the originality as well as the dare to be different factors going.
Go for the Cleve, they are great engines. I have a 71 Boss Cleveland in my 56 F-100. It will rev 7 grand in a heartbeat and never miss a lick. It is a no brainer. You can see the truck and engine on my web site at www.michellesfords.com
