Engine Dilemma

Hi!

I've got a 67 F100 that will need total restoration and I'm hoping to start soon. The truck currently has a 352 CI engine that runs but will need an overhaul. But I've been given a freshly rebuilt 351 Cleveland so I'm considering popping that motor in.

What's the opinions on these engines? Should I rebuild the 352 or is the 351C a good option?
Thanks!

Larry

Engine Dilemma

Is the Clev. a 2bbl. or 4bbl?

Engine Dilemma

The 351 will require a different transmission (if auto and didifferent bell-housing for the manuals) and different motor mounts.

The 352 is part of the FE enfgine family. It can be built up as a 360, 390, or 406 or 410 provided the block cylinder walls have enough material.

The 390 conversion is a popular choice. You will need a 390 crank, rods and pistons.

Some of us are partial to these FE engines, but they are a bit harder to find parts for. Maybe not harder, but you will spend a little more than on a 351.

But consider what you will spend on changing transmissions and motor mounts, it may be worth it.

A good running 390 is a great truck motor.

Engine Dilemma

I pulled the 352 out of my 67 when I discovered it wasn't the orginal engine. It was worn out and it had different casting numbers on the heads and the block had rebuilder numbers on it where it had been bored and the crank turned. I swapped in a built 351C out of a Mach1 I wrecked. The Cleveland sure made my shortbed haul tail! With the right gear a lack of low end torque isn't obvious. Got tired of the gas mileage and swapped an 85 GT Mustang engine in it. Lost some horses, but picked up some gas mileage, especially when I swapped a 5-speed into it!

Engine Dilemma

Thanks guys!

I just got back from looking at the motor. It's a 4 bbl with the 4v heads.
Looks like the same mounting as a 302/351W. So I can just swap the mounts out. Of course I will need a tranny with the correct mounting as well. What are my tranny choices? I want an auto so I'd lean towards a C6 unless there is something that will mount up with overdrive. Any ideas?
ny other concerns anyone can think of? Oil pan config? Driveshaft length?
Thanks!

Larry
