The average MPG gauge in the counsel is definately not accurate in my truck. Any idea where it gets the input from. Over the cold winter idleing etc. I drop according to the gauge to 10.4 avg mpg. I just got back from a 3400 mile 4 day trip and my avg on the gauge rose to 11.6 but if you calculate it mannually it is acctually 15.4 mpg. If the gauge is just a Ford toy you would think they would over state the mpg to give the owner the warm fussy feeling until they checked it.
But sounds like you're never resetting it, is that right ?
after months of use, it probably won't move too much... just like ANY average.... be it mpg or batting averages...
if you go to bat 3 times and get a hit only once.. your average is .333...
but if you bat just ONE more time and don't hit, it dives from .333 to .250 !
now change those at bats to 300 at bats and your batting percentage with one more at bat is barely affected either way !
You definitely dont want to rely on it to determine if you are going to make it to the next fuel stop. If you are near a fuel stop and the next one is 50 miles down the road and your DTE says 55 miles or so you better stop and get fuel now. Otherwise you will likely be hoofing it with a gas can.
Paso1 ... You can reset your computor by holding both buttons down together for a couple of seconds. The computor shows an overall average between the times that it is reset.
Thanks guys I do not re set it very offen your right. I'll try resetting it more often see if it gets closer to actual. I have my auxilary 90 gallon tank so I carry lots of fuel I can go along way between fills as it is i don't even look at the miles to empty. When truck tank is empty I hit my transfer pump switch.
