I don't know if it was mentioned already, but Sears also carries many other appliance labels besides Kenmore. GE, Maytag, Whirlpool, JennAir, Amana, Frigidaire, and Kitchen Aid are some of their other brands. I think Sears has a solid reputation of standing behind what they sell.

Sears is ok. The only compaint I have is I've bought a washer, dryer, and fridge from them and all three were cosmetically damaged -- dent/scratch. They have gone from flat pallat forktrucks to side-squeeze models in their warehouse. When the lift clamps on the side of the appliance it damages it. Check for it and you can get some $$ off the purchase. The damage didn't affect operation.

I have a Maytag neptune. Really expensive but well thought out machine. Front loading machine. Doors open opposite to each other so you can go from washer to dryer without having a door in the way. Lights in washer and dryer so you can see that sock you left behind. You can pause the cycle and unlock to add an item you forgot. It WILL use less water. In a top loader you have to fill the basket till all the clothes are covered. In a front loader you put a little in the bottom and then the turning action cycles the clothes through the water. Being as I'm on a well and septic, the less water and soap I have to pump through my system the better. The washer baket is tilted to keep water away from the door seal. The dryer has a run till dry feature. So no damp clothes at the end of the cycle.

I've got the inexpensive Kenmore front-load washer, and it's great. Uses almost no water, totally silent, clothes come out clean. One drawback: can't throw in an extra towel after it's started, like you can with a top-loader. Avoid the real expensive machines ($800+), they've been trouble-prone. I've had this going on three years, no problems at all.

COOL..... I have ECHO and STIHL, if the yard is big enough, a zero turn radius mower is the way to go. A good rule of thumb when buying a home, the garage area should be 10,000 sq ft. more than the living area....just my opinion.

Well, 10,000 sq. inches is more likely... The upside of it being a one car garage is that the previous owners had installed shelves and such which take up a considerable amount of the space, leaving enough room to work on a car, but too inconvenient to park one there all the time!

I love sears and think that in general no matter what appliances you buy from them you will be getting a good deal they may not be as cheap as best buy but they make up in quality what they lack in price but I would never buy another front load washer been there done that was happy about the $200 less I got for it at the yard sale I sold it at 2 months later when I bought another top load
can not stand front loads but thats just my opinion if it is youre thing than get it
and if you do so at sears you got a decent deal and a quality product

76supercab2 , I think your appliances were damaged by the guys who delivered them . They have been useing squeezebox loaders for over 30 years , thats how they load them at the factory . They load four fridges across then put one on it's side on top of them , washers and dryers get stacked two high three across . and they can load a 53' trailer in under five minutes !

We have one of the Kenmore HE 3t front load washers, and I wouldn't ever go back to a top loader. It uses a third of the water, third of the deteregent, and can wash 4 times the amount of clothes. The clothes get cleaner, than a top loader, and if you put too much detergent in it automatically rinses all of it out. Also you can add stuff at the beginning of the cycle. My wife washes some of her dry clean only stuff on the gentler cycles. The washer is made by Bosch, I think that makes it a Ford

You should do fine buying from Sears. We have used appliances from Sears for almost 30 years---several washers and dryers, at least two refrigerators and one or two dishwashers during that time. Sears has always given us excellent service and repairs even when we lived in a remote rural area. If I wanted to fix something myself it was always easy to get parts from Sears promptly. I don't think my wife ever looks anywhere else when it comes time to buy new ones. Sears sells more appliances in the USA than any other company.

Rander.

Save a ton on appliances at Sears

One more point about Sears...

Look on line for their Outlet stores. These are the Sears scratch & dent outlets. REALLY worth the effort! They are pretty bare-bones warehouse type depots that are usually crammed full of nice appliances which are "only" about 99% good enough for the showroom floor. I have most often had to be told where to look to find the defect on one, as they are usually such a non-issue that I doubt I'd have noticed if the delivery guys did the damage on my new one on the way in the door. I've also been told by their staff that if an appliance gets delivered, but the owner changes their mind en route and doesn't accept delivery or pay the balance on delivery or whatever, then the appliance goes to scratch & dent rather than back to the main store.

Nice thing is that these are still all big name appliances (whatever Sears might carry) that are factory new with a full warranty, but the discounts are rediculous! Four years ago we were furnishing our house and bought an $800 ceramic flat-top, five burner range for like $250! And a chest type deep freeze for around $80 - $100 IIRC. The stove had a scratch low on the side, where the kitchen cabinets cover it anyway. Never did figure out what was scratched on the freezer. Both are still working perfectly.

They seem to have a S&D outlet in most big cities...go to sears.com and click "store locator" up at the top, then select "Outlet Stores." I couldn't believe how much money you could save that way. And we'd just bought a fridge, washer & dryer the "regular" way at Sears and were seriously kicking ourselvers for dumping probably $500-800 that we wouldn't have had to spend!

The outlets don't carry stuff like toasters or normal TVs but any major houshold appliances they do have, and the one we went to did have a few big-screen, projection type TVs...hmmmm.! :-)

Enjoy!

I forgot about those. My lawnmower and weedeater are from Sears too (Craftsmen? Craftsmans?). Both turned 13 this year, bought them in summer of 1991. Both still run.

I have had a few differences with Sears over the years but they always make it right. I seek out the sales people I want to deal with. I had showed up at a Sears store in Greenville NC straight from a barrel race in dirty jeans, boots and tshirt. Kids werent too clean but we needed to get to the sale before it ended that night. There was one girl working and when she looked at us she turned back to her appliance book. I asked her if she was selling appliances or in the sears instore study program and she said sales. I told her i wanted a dishwasher and fridge...stainless steel and she said well I have much cheaper models over here. I said no I want stainless steel. I want these over here. She then commented that I should really try to stay within my budget. It hit me she thought i was poor white trash. I then said you know you are right i will just stick to my "icebox" for food preservation and my sink for dishwashing. I even added thank God I love my washboard for doing laundry.
We left came back the next day in my better clothes nails cleaned make up on everyday jewelry kids in their Tommy and Mudd and Nike and she came right up and said I remember you i said yeah well I remember you too and i walked right past her and found a nice little old lady and bought what I needed wanted and more. Leaving i got to finally use the famous pretty woman movie line..."big Mistake"
Okay i rambled sorry it was just funny. I did get the sale prices too btw
Sears is a good store. As for the extended warranties when the clerks ask me if i want to purchase the EW I just look them in the eye and say "If you think I need an warranty that goes over a year you are saying yiour product is crap and if it breaks down in that EW time frame you give I will bring it back to your store and get a replacement because if i am going to pay x amount of dollars for this it better last more than a year.
Congrats on the house!

Thanks for all the info, I'll do some research on the outlet stores. I think there'e one in Richmond- about two hours from here. And thanks, QHMom, for the story. I always thought it would be fun to use that line!! Also proves that good customer service pays dividends.
