I posted this in the 97-03 forum and didnt get any hits so i thought someone here might be able to help me out.
Reading through the post i have seen many post about noises and i understand that it is hard to figure out what it is without actually hearing it but i was hoping someone might atleast be able to point me in the right direction. I have 02 F150 4.6L and have noticed a noise when i accelerate and can hear it even more when i am next to a wall or barrier when driving.
It is a clicking noise but nothing like a lifter tapping or anything metal it has
air sound like a fast cha-cha-cha-cha and seems to be coming from the front of the vehicle. To me (who has no piston engine knowlege) it sounds to be exhaust related but what do i know. Is this normal or should i get it checked out while i still have 4 months on the warrenty.
( i have only owned the truck for 3 weeks so its not like something just started making the noise)
Any help will be great.
Sounds like possible detonation to me. You might try some higher octane fuel to see if it goes away. If so, then I would look into eliminating the detonation. Cleaning injectors, cleaning EGR ports, cleaning MAF, etc.
Well its been awhile and I took my truck to the dealer to have the radio swapped out with the new model with the fan, so while I had it in there I asked them to check out this noise. Ofcours they said 3 guys drove it and only heard normal drive train noise. I told them that i would like to come take a ride with one of the mech's to point it out. Well I drove and pointed out the noise and the mechanic said it was normal and made a comment that the exhaust parts arent under warrenty anyways. So I guess I'm asking what do you think I should do next.
