I have been looking at putting a detroit soft locker in the rear of my truck; i am sick and tired of hearing the "cha cha cha cha cha" noise of the LS clutches every time i burn out or do any other harsh manuevers in respect to the rear end. I am not very experienced with this sort of drivetrain enhancements, however, i would like to put the same unit both front and rear. If i put the locker in the front, is this going to significanly change the handling characteristics of the truck in 4 wheel drive? sometimes i run my truck in 4x4 out on the road during rain or any other time where traction is limited, simply so the truck doesnt spin every time i get on it. If i put the locker up front, is it going to make it extremely difficult to turn in the rain on pavement, ect? (keep in mind that this is a soft locker with a rachet, not an air locker or any other device that POSITIVELY locks the wheels together.
First off, thanks for the compliment to our group... even though at the expense of the SD forum !
but we are all FORD Truck Enthusiasts !
This is WAY above my head.. let's see if some real spurts get in here to help...

but I like the thing one of the manufactureres just announced - an all wheel drive system that drives the outside wheels in a turn faster than the inside wheels !!!!
Is that cool or what !!!
I had an all wheel steering sports car a few years ago and an all wheel drive jeep so i know the benifits of both !
But different power levels on the wheels - WAY COOL...
probably really comples, but way cool !

I am thinkiing of putting a locker in the rear only, Ilive wear there is snow , for 7 months winter contitions exist. Ithink there is enought wieght in the front of the truck to give enough traction but the back needs help. I have to put the truck in 4 wheel all the time just because the 1 rear is just spinning on ice
If you think the stock LS makes a little noise the Detroit locker will shock you!
When the Soft Locker locks up, it's locked!
Sometimes when it releases you'll think the rear end just blew apart!
I do hard core off-roading (jeep) I run a Spool in the rear and a Detroit soft locker up frt.
If you want good street manners frt & rear that locks when needed and make very
little too no noise I would recomend (Trutracs)
A Trutrac is a gear driven LS that works very well on road and theres no clutches to wear out either.
I plan on putting them in my 04 350 4X4 soon.
Detroit soft lockers are great, for what their intended for, I just dont know where
the soft part is?
The average Joe dont need or want a Detroit soft locker in a daily driver!
