Have '91 Explorer, 4.0L engine, just rebuilt engine but had this ticking sound (much like noisy lifters, which we thought it was as we had not replace the original lifters.)
So, we tore engine back down, and installed new lifters.
Guess what, it still has the tick...tick...tick sound.
Now, we are not sure it is from the engine. If one holds the gas line, there is a strange "pulsing" at the exact same time of the "ticking"...
Anyone there experienced/solved this problem? I read through many of the posts already, and yes, we HAVE cleaned the maf sensor. Still ticks...
Probably nothing wrong with them. Injectors (especially Ford's so I've heard) are naturally noisy. I've also heard that excessively noisy injectors (probably have to compare to someone elses Explorer) can be caused by a bad computer ground.
