Just curious, for this era truck, which is your fav, flare side or fleet side, and why? I'm personally partial to the fleetside because i think the lines run smoother w/ the truck, plus you have more bed space. What about you?
Some trucks look good with the flareside (i.e. 4x4 short box with a good paint scheme) but they are a little too blocky for my taste. If it were the newer style flareside, I would get one in a heartbeat. With some bedliners, it is difficult to get a snowmobile in the back of a flareside and I believe these things are made of fiberglass, which costs a fortune to fix. Judging by the results of the poll thus far, not many people have them or like them.
i personally prefer the fleetside, dont like the flareside, looks like the truck is anhorexic(sp) with wide hips. have always been partial to fleetside trucks, are more functional, and just plain out look cooler! also have more room for paint schemes, and murals and such.
I like the flaresides, thats why I bought one. But I don't like the extended cab version of the flareside, doesn't look right to me. I think the 4x4's with big tires looks better than the standard flareside. But I really like any truck as long as it looks good. I have a few pics of mine in gallery. (I've added wider wheels, clearance lights and toneau cover since pic was taken) I've had a 83 Ford Fleetside and a 65 Ford Fleetside SB, with a 390, C6, fast (miss that truck). One thing I know I don't like is lowered trucks. Maybe its because I getting older and harder to get out of a low vehicle
I agree with some of the previous comments. In this era, the flaresides are horrid looking. It's blocky, and I like the eating disorder joke. That's a good comparison there. The flareside on the 97-03 look very sexy. I just don't think it flows with the look of the truck on this era. Yick...
I don't even like short boxes, let alone a flare side! Grew up farming and the pickup was a utility vehicle and we had the long box fleetside full most of the time. Hate to figure out where stuff would go if had flare side or short box.
Plus the fact that I always have a full set of tools along, and some extra parts just in case I break down -- I use up about 1/4 of my truck bed just with that stuff...
And the looks, flare sides were ugly in this era. I like the step side late 70's Dodge pickups -- Lil' Red Express Truck!
