I have a E450 1999 chassie on a class C motorhome that does not have air bags in the rear. My problem is I would like to put them on & I can purchase them ok but my oners manuel said not to put them on this chassie can anyone tell me why not. I know that you can order the new 450 chassie with them so I cannot find out what the difference is.
I do remember one half ton truck someone had on another forum where the frame did crack in half where it was drilled for the air bags. The owner himself attributed it to how grossly overloaded his truck was, over such a long period of time, as well as the holes in the frame for the airbags and the fact that the airbags were supporting alot of the wieght of the load on that part of the frame where they were mounted to instead of at the 2 points where the leafsprings mount. It was a Chevy shortbed if I remember it correctly, carrying a heavy slide-in camper that extended beyond the rear of the truck.
