Sorry to hear so many of you are having problems with this order "game." I would have to agree, it seems like some kind of lottery game. Makes me really glad I found one on another Dealer's Lot. It was well worth the trip to avoid the big guessing game as to when/if my order was to be accepted. Makes it kind of hard to run a seasonal side business when you don't know if you are going to have transportation! Someone at Ford needs to get in the Game!!!
Ford may have a superior truck in many areas, but what good is that if you can't get one. Someone at ford should step up to the plate before they start losing customers. Lets face it some customers cannot wait forever for a truck because of business and other reasons. I was really hoping to get mine before Labor day Then before Christmas Now I may not receive my new F250 until February. I am sure some snow will have come and gone by that time. Maybe I should just cancel my order and wait for an 06.
I ordered an all black F250 Lariat super cab Diesel with the 18" Wheels with all options except the camper package and lower body paint. My order was placed in june, and I cannot believe Ford is having this many parts delivery problem. I also believe there are politics involved. I actually say an F250 at a dealer with the 18" wheels unfortunately it sold very quickly the color was dark stone and arizona beige lariat cc long bed.
I ordered an 05 F-250 King Ranch PSD CC 4X4 8' bed on August 20. It has the power sliding rear window and the 18 wheels that are talked about as a possible cause for delays. It has pretty much everything except the 6 disc cd and it does not have a sunroof. I made one small change on my order (originally had the lights on top of the cab but deleted them) and the dealer told me 'OK, no more changes after today or it will delay your order.' That was August 24th.
I just got a status update and here it is:
"As to the status of yours, it has been submitted to the plant, and scheduled to be built the week of 9/20/04; arrival should be Oct 6-11 if everything flows as normal."
This dealer currently has 14 2005 F-250's with PSD engines and has 12 2005 F-350's on the lot. I guess that would put them in a high volume catagory as far as SD trucks go. This may explain my smooth order-build so far. Hopefully everything will "flow as normal."
Moose congrats on getting your status, I'm heading over to my dealer now, they'd better have a build date or I maybe reconsidering things. Since mine was ordered 8/12 I expect to have a date and if Ford wants to play friggin Mickey Mouse Lottery I may rethink my truck. Grrr @ Ford.
There's no question that Ford's ordering system needs to be overhauled. It's ancient and hopelessly out-of-date. If you think it's frustrating for you as a consumer, imagine what it's like for a dealer that has, at any one time, 40-50 vehicles on order for customers. It's no fun for us, either. The problem is, no one's sure what the answer is. They (Ford) could make sold orders the highest priority, then dealers will just order their stock units with sold-retail codes in order to get them quicker, defeating the system before it starts. Truth be known, Ford doesn't like sold-order vehicles. They prefer to load up their dealers with inventory and have us sell everything from stock. Yeah, like that works when it comes to Super-Dutys.
I've read many times that Ford monitors this site; maybe they do, maybe they don't. But I do know one thing: they DON'T listen to their dealers. Maybe if enough consumers complained directly to FoMoCo, it would make a difference.
Jeff I can appreciate how it puts you guys in a bind. I just got back from my dealer, the sales guy said his system didn't show anything new. At which I told him that unless something was update I was considering canceling the order. We went back to the new car order guy and of course his printouts give the good new. I have a build date the week of 9/20 and even a VIN. I'm sure the dealers hate the communication on the Internet too, but Ford needs to embrace it and use it to their advantage, information travels fast and I would prefer to get an email each time something happened on my truck than to wait for a call or have to call the dealer. Automation can be a great thing, if its used right.
I ordered a 2005 F350 6.0 Lariat SRW CC loaded, except for the moonroof, on 8/13 from the Kingman AZ dealer. Had my VIN# the first week and today have a "Dealer ETA" of 10/04. Even with a few days delay I should still be within the magic 8 week window. I'm anxious to see whether the two tone silver is on the fender lips or not. Ford literature, pictures and words, are confusing.
Four weeks ago I ordered an 05 F350 King Ranch PS 4X4 Crew short bed from the fleet department of a dealer in Phoenix. I was told today that I should be taking delivery the middle of next week. I have had no problems. The salesman kept me posted. The unit was built exactly as ordered, totally loaded. Perhaps it depends on the dealer you order through. By the way this is my first truck. I am very excited.
