Mine works well. I control temp with the temp dial. I live in Central Texas and summers get warm. I bought it in August. That is one of the things I checked. I don't know where you heard there were problems, unless someone was looking for a reason to rag on the F250 or was used to driving a Mercedes SUV.
R134a seems to be a commonly misunderstood issue. The rumor started that R134a was not as good as R12 and grew from there. The only performance difference is that R134a is not as efficient to use as R12. Either one, R12 or R134a, is capable of chilling the evaporator (cooling coil) to temperatures below 32F or 0C. That is as cold as you can get before the condensation that forms on the evaporator (the water you commonly see dripping out from under your vehicle after running your A/C) begins to freeze. When the evaporator freezes up you can no longer circulate air through it and you lose the ability to cool due to a lack of airflow. R134a being less efficient does not mean you can't cool as well as you can with R12. It simply means that the system, compressor, condenser, etc., must work harder to achieve the same result. A system using either refrigerant can run "colder" than you can possibly use for air conditioning.
With all my vehicles, we used to turn on the max airconditioning with the heat setting on high during the winter. This was to utilize the recirculate feature and allow the system to heat up the interior faster by recirculating the air. It worked well on all my vehicles including my 2002 F-350 SuperDuty. I tried this on my wife's 2004 F-350 this winter and it only blew cold air. Granted her truck has a V-10, but maybe they changed the design or controls in all the 2004 A/C systems. She sure was suprised to walk out to a cold truck

thats how all my vehicals were my a/c system is just like yours
I have an April 2, 03 built F250SD. I turned on Max AC. Rotated the temp **** over to full on. About 4 seconds later a large volume of hot air came out. Turned the **** back and it came out cool.
I checked it twice to see if I was right. I did it once with my wife in the truck and didn't say anything about doing it. After the hot air came out she asked what the heck I was doing. So she felt it too. It wasn't one of those group halllucination things.

I used to do this also with my 01 F150 and 99 Ranger, but lost this ability with my 04 F250. I tried it and it would kick out heat for about 1 min then go cold even if I maxed out the heat. Is there a way we can modify the system to recirculate the heat also?

call ford and bitch
install a ball valve in the vacume line on the airbox it will allow you to blend on max a/c
