What do you guys torque your motor mount nuts to? I've been investigating a wierd 'thump' or 'bump' that happens when I pull away from a stop and discovered that my motor mounts were slightly loose. I tightened them pretty hard but don't know where to stop. By the way, the 'thump' is still there. Thanks for your help on the torque question.
well for the thump I would check to see if the rubber in the motor mount is broke, one way is to take a jack place a block of wood on it, and lightly start jacking on the oil pan if the mounts are broken they will seperate just don't try, and lift the vehicle but enough to start lifting it.
As far as the mount bolts most of the time until my impact wrench quits tightening it.
on edit: you might also check or maybe first your trans mount this is often over looked and seldom replaced but it will cause a thump also, either broken or loose

Another way to check the mounts: It's usually the drivers side that goes trying to lift when you gas it. Try gassing it in nuetral from the carb while you watch the engine. Or better yet have a buddy give it some gas in gear with the brakes on while you eye ball it.
