I've heard plenty of info on airbox holes for the 4.0L early Explorers. What about 5.0L V8s with the conical filter housing...is there a specific pattern to use, or should I just go with a KKM Tru-Rev Induction Kit??
Well I have a 92 Explorer that I drilled air holes in the filter canister. Just a suggestion I would go with the K&N charger kit for the 95 Explorers. The KKM induction is a good system, but a true air induction system should have the air pickup tube either thru the grille or under the front bumper. KKM's is still up in the engine compartment. I think the K&N is cheaper and will do the same thing as the KKM. JUST MY OPINION !!!
What I've done so far is drill two 1.5" holes that now provide about 360 degree air availability. The sound difference is negligable, but I am experiencing quicker throttle response, and RPM has dropped about 150 traveling at the same speed than previously.
I'm driving down to Florida next week, so will be able to do a good MPG evaluation...this will decide if I just keep the holes, or go K&N/KKM.
