most of the cold wet saws use high speed steel blades. usually 275mm to 350mm in dia with 180-220 teeth for cutting tubing up to 1/4 thick. cutting solid stock will require less teeth. most that I have seen and use have two speeds.

aluminum cutting

GSchretter, yes i too installed a new fine tooth carbide blade backwards in a Skillsaw and cut aluminum panels down to size for a motorcycle trailer. With a aluminum extension ladder as a guide the 4' x 10' x.093" panels were cut in minutes. You must add a few layers of duct tape to the saw base to avoid scratches and use a slow feed. After riveting the panels to the aluminum frame i trimmed the panels down with a belt sander, this also gave a nice brushed finish. Its loud cutting the aluminum, ask my neighbors. Carl...o&o>...

The cheapest way out of it is an abrasive shop saw. They are designed for the work and a skilled operator can do so many things on it. They work good on rusty mtl too as well as odd shapes. Can even cope angle on it, cut hyd hose or even plastic plumbing pipe and use it on conduit for wiring or fabrication. We have a special bench I made for it and I am lost without it. http://www.hobartwelders.com/mboard/...achmentid=6702 Here is a pic of it.

Chop Saw

I use a Dewalt chop saw and I love it. I burned up on of those cheap over seas ones in a day.

I like the walls constructed around yours. Good idea. I just let my sparks fall. I guess that is why I have a smoked up garage once.

For most uses just get a chop saw, If you can't afford it yet, get a cheap garage sale circular saw with an abrasive blade. I sure wouldn't even attempt using a miter or table saw... no way.

That is a 275 gal fuel oil tank on end, couple pieces of trailer I beam for feet so I can move it with a pallet jack. The bench is perforated to let dust drop thru and makes a great catch all. Really keeps the mess to a minimum. http://www.shopfloortalk.com/forums/...tachmentid=939

Sberry27, forgot to mention never let your so called friends use the cold saw, one quick cut he said, slams the blade into 3"x 3" angle, there goes 5 teeth and $145. I pampered it for 3 years, one idiot destroys in seconds. Some people can break a steel ball. "Never loan your lawnmower, chainsaw or wife out, it'll come back with a rod thrown thru it". ghostgunn, are you planning on mounting that "circular saw" to something. that is probably the most unsafe thing you could use. one little kickback and boom your eating blade debris.

Shameless plug for a guy in my local area (Phoenix).
http://members.***.net/divtec2/id2.htm

I just bought a 40 amp Plasma cutter from this gentleman. He is an budding entrepreneur who found a way to import plasma cutters. Not a brand name. In reality, it has no name except the one he puts on it. Sort of like some other products right? Anyways, I digress.

40 AMPs will allow you to cut thru 3/4 in steel. I spent a couple of hours playing with his demo cutter before I forked over the $900. I have only used mine sparingly. But it has already saved me many hours and abused cuss words.

If you are in the market for a plasma cutter, this thing is about 1/2 the price of a Miller, Lincoln, or Hypertherm.
