Evolution Metal Cutting Saws
I got the chop saw first (steelsaw 2 tct). going from abrasive to steel is the bomb. Holy moly does this saw cut steel. It has sliced right through anything I've clamped in it. Nice straight, square cuts and almost burr free.
Only down fall: they use one of those lift and lock levers that holds the fence in place. The engineers were not smart enough to grind a flat on the washer underneath to allow a full 90 degree cut. In other words you got about 87 degrees until I ground a flat on the washer below the lever.
I then found out that they are an Ace vendor, which basically means I can buy them for cost. Wished I would have had that info a bit sooner...duh!
My good ole worm drive Skil saw finally bit the dust so I needed a new saw. I ordered the Evolution Rage saw that leans more toward the steel cutting side. I've only used it a couple of times but the blade visibility really sucks.
It is a right side saw and they put a little window on the left side of the blade about 2"x1.5" in the housing hoping to allow the user to see the cut. You pretty much can't see anything on the right side of the blade
Puuullleease...it's a guess as to where the blade is in relation to your cut line.
So, with minor mods the chop saw is a nice tool once the washer mod is made.
The Rage saw is not a saw I would recommend. Both are made overthere so you know the drill on that one. Hoping the day comes soon that the Rage saw gets dropped off a roof or something.
I wanted to try one of their blades in my 7 1/4" saw, what rpm does the smaller saw turn anyway? When I looked it said they worked with ordinary saws. So how does that one work? What metals have you cut? Any roofing type metal? How noisy is it when running thru metal?
The little saw not the chopsaw ..
Bought mine gently used with what's probably a cheap blade that has had one tooth rewelded due breakage and 12 carbide tips replaced, mostly my fault.
What impressed me most about this process is cutting a 1/2-13 hardened threaded rod clean without any burrs whatsoever at the cut end. Nuts threaded on trouble free----pretty amazing compared to previous attempts cutting such pieces.
Any other cut in steel and there's just nothing better.
I wish the Evo had the quick slide lever that I had on my DeWalt dry cut saw. Just kinda handy for moving the fence fast.
